In the course of their meeting, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan have agreed to keep on making joint actions at the bilateral and multilateral levels to support and protect the rights of the Crimean Tatar people. "We are particularly grateful to Turkey for its indifference to the problems of the citizens of Ukraine - Crimean Tatars, who have already been under pressure of Russia in the occupied Crimea for a year," the President said.
The Head of State has noted that the parties had discussed the security situation in the region, where "the strategic balance and the atmosphere of trust have been destroyed by the Russian aggression against Ukraine".
Recep Tayyip Erdogan has thanked Petro Poroshenko for the support of Crimean Tatars. "In the international arena, we have openly said that we do not recognize the illegal annexation of Crimea," he emphasized.
The Turkish President has stressed that the Crimean Tatar people had demonstrated their loyalty to the Ukrainian state, but paid a high price for a principled stand. "We are directly observing the situation of the Crimean Tatars who have been under constant pressure for a year," he said adding that Turkey would continue to touch upon the given issue in the course of the discussions at the bilateral and multilateral levels.
