Ukrainian social protection bodies have registered over one million IDPs who have fled their homes after the annexation of Crimea by Russia and actions of pro-Russian terrorists in certain regions of Donetsk and Luhansk regions. Having moved to the territories controlled by the Ukrainian authorities they receive necessary social protection, medical and legal assistance, as well as get education.

At the Government House, on Tuesday, March 31, there was held a briefing dedicated to the issues of social protection of internally displaced persons during which representatives of 5 ministries informed the media that by now there were registered 1.195 million citizens of this category.

The Ukrainian authorities fulfil payments for the IDPs to provide assistance for accommodation and rental housing, while in March the Government adopted a decision to increase the amount of such assistance for the disabled persons.

All the citizens who have moved to safe regions of Ukraine receive medical care at the place of temporary residence. A representative of the Health Ministry informed that among the internally displaced persons over 3 thousand children had been born and all the mothers and babies received relevant medical assistance.

The officials stressed that pupils and students from certain territories of Donetsk, Luhansk regions and Crimea have an opportunity to be educated outside their homeland, thus all the conditions for the applicants have been created in universities.

According to a representative of the Ministry of Science and Education, the Government has made the unprecedented step of simplifying bureaucratic procedures in the education sphere. In particular, online registration for external independent testing, distance learning and other testing have been launched to ensure all the children could receive their school certificates and continue education.

Apart from that, the Government announces simplification of the registration procedure, issuing various documents for the citizens of Ukraine from the temporarily occupied territories in any available department of the Ministry of Justice on the peaceful part of the territory of Ukraine.
