President had a phone conversation with Secretary General of the Venice Commission

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko had a phone conversation with Secretary General of the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe Gianni Buquicchio.

The Head of State noted the important role of the Venice Commission in the constitutional, judicial, and electoral reform implementation in Ukraine. “We strongly intend to change the country and implement the reforms. This is what Ukraine’s people requires from us,” Petro Poroshenko said.

The President stressed that Ukraine was looking forward to further cooperation with the Council of Europe and the Venice Commission.

Petro Poroshenko and Gianni Buquicchio exchanged their views on the decentralization of power on the eve of the vote scheduled for the following day at the Verkhovna Rada to make amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine. Gianni Buquicchio expressed hope that Ukraine’s Parliament would support such amendments.

The Secretary General noted the role of the President in implementing reforms in Ukraine and said that the Venice Commission would keep supporting Ukraine in its reform implementation.
