President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko had a meeting with Federal President of Germany Joachim Gauck in Berlin. The parties discussed the fulfillment of commitments within the Minsk agreements, the assistance of Germany in the solution of problems of IDPs and German support for the European integration aspirations of Ukraine.
The Head of State expressed gratitude for the clear and firm position of Berlin on the restoration of sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and the leading role of Germany in the consolidation of the international support for Ukraine.
The President informed his German colleague on the escalation of the situation in Donbas, particularly on constant violation of the ceasefire regime by Russian troops and pro-Russian militants, as well as the intensification of shelling of residential areas, infrastructure objects and industrial enterprises in the region. He noted that terrorists block the exchange of war prisoners and obstruct the delivery of Ukrainian and international humanitarian assistance to Donbas.
Petro Poroshenko expressed gratitude to Joachim Gauck for drawing the attention of the European community to the problems of IDPs in Ukraine.
The parties discussed the reformation of Ukraine and the European integration agenda, particularly the process of ratification of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU, as well as the establishment of the visa-free regime for Ukrainian citizens.
Joachim Gauck congratulated Petro Poroshenko and the people of Ukraine on the Independence Day noting that not all Ukrainians can celebrate the given holiday because of the Russian aggression. According to him, Europeans should help Ukraine today and stand side-by-side with Ukrainians in this difficult historical moment.
