President had a meeting with security officials: Guilty of clashes near the Parliament must be brought to justice
01 September 2015 00:42

The President held an emergency meeting with leaders of the Parliament, Government and security forces on the latest developments near Verkhovna Rada. The President demanded to carefully examine the circumstances of clashes, find the organizers and inform the public about those responsible for the use of force and military weapons during a rally outside the Parliament.

According to the recent data, as a result of the attack on the law enforcers near Verkhovna Rada, more than 120 people were injured, including ATO members. One person was killed. Two foreign journalists were wounded. "These are not the news from the frontline, where people haven't been killed for three days already and where is no more shelling," the President said adding that the given silence is the result of the ceasefire arrangements achieved on the eve of the beginning of school year on September 1. "At the same time, the Ukrainian soldier, warrior of the National Guard was killed in the center of Kyiv," the Head of State noted.

"Such a political attitude towards the Ukrainian law enforcers, the majority of which have been in the ATO area, cannot remain unpunished. The key difference is that it is political forces who shall be responsible. To gain several mandates in local authorities, they resort to murder. To weaken and attack the Ukrainian authorities, President, Government and Parliament, they make up some nonsense and urge armed people to come to the Parliament. And then they are trying to avoid liability and accuse some hooligans," Petro Poroshenko emphasized.

The President called for the immediate establishment of the investigative group. "Not only executors will be punished. Not only those, who used grenades, machine guns and baseball bats, but also their organizers and political customers," the Head of State stressed.

The President called for the efficient, prompt and transparent investigation, for Ukraine and the entire world to know who organized these events.

"I insist that not a single person shall remain unpunished. We need a strong unity against the aggressor today and because of these fake patriots and provocateurs, people die in the center of the Ukrainian capital. We must demonstrate clear, coordinated and efficient work of the authorities," Petro Poroshenko stated.

In his turn, Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk called the given events "a crime against the Ukrainian state". "All political forces that have been allegedly defending the Ukrainian Constitution, blocking the Parliament and organizing chaos near Verkhovna Rada, have been in fact mocking the Constitution and the Ukrainian state. They must be brought to political and legal liability," the Prime Minister emphasized.

Head of the Security Service Vasyl Hrytsak informed that 10 structures, including VO "Svoboda", "UKROP" party and Radical party, have applied for holding manifestations near the Parliament.

The meeting was attended by Chairman of Verkhovna Rada Volodymyr Groysman, Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk, NSDC Secretary Oleksandr Turchynov, Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin, Head of the Security Service of Ukraine Vasyl Hrytsak, Interior Minister Arsen Avakov, a.i. Head of the National Guard of Ukraine Mykola Balan.
