The Ukrainian President informed on recent diplomatic and military achievements and emphasized the necessity of internal unity and consolidation of Ukrainians. "Having been rebuffed on the front, Kremlin is trying to move confrontation inside Ukraine. When the entire world united in order to support Ukraine, we need internal unity as never before. Only consolidation of society will help overcome the external enemy," Petro Poroshenko said.
The Head of State emphasized that bilateral ceasefire had been introduced on August 29. After the meeting in Paris, it became sustainable. "We've managed to make militants withdraw the weaponry from the touch line," he noted. According to the President, Ukraine withdraws the weaponry under the special plan that will allow prompt return of the armament in case Russians and their mercenaries decide to break the truce regime.
The President stressed that due to the joint coordinated efforts with our partners, first of all Germany, France and USA, Ukraine had achieved Russian obligation not to conduct pseudo-elections in the occupied areas on October 18 and November 1.
Petro Poroshenko has once again reminded the importance of the agreement on the enhancement of the OSCE mission, which will now receive guaranteed access not only to the occupied territories adjacent to the touch line, but also to the Ukrainian-Russian border. "It is the first step towards the restoration of Ukrainian control over these territories," the President noted. According to him, Ukraine, France and Germany made it clear for Putin that elections in the occupied territories must be held solely under the Ukrainian law and the holding of elections is closely related to the withdrawal of Russian troops, disarmament of militants and restoration of Ukrainian control over the border.
"We cannot deprive IDPs of the right to elect their local government in Donbas. We also must ensure participation of Ukrainian parties and restore comprehensive Ukrainian television and radio broadcasting in the occupied territories," Petro Poroshenko stressed.
At the same time, he emphasized that "it seems that some national politicians don't understand that the situation cannot get back to March 1, 2014": "Thus, extraordianory wisdom and farsightedness are required for the reintegration of territories. And it is even harder to return human hearts and souls". The President added: "There will be no elections without the Parliament. Without elections in the occupied territories, political settlement will get to a dead end".
However, the President noted that "some Ukrainian politicians do not conceal that it is a scenario they want, that's why they offer to "surrender, block and isolate". "But it is very simple decision, which doesn't require intellect, poltiical will or diplomatic skills. That's why it is not my scenario. And it is not a scenario of the majority of Ukrainians who want peace and reunification of the country," the President emphasized.
"If we fail to return Donetsk and Luhansk regions, who will speak of the return of Crimea with a country, which doesn't value its territories? Donbas is our Homeland as well. I am not going to betray our Homeland. I must save and restore the country," the President noted.
