President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko is having a meeting with President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis who is on his first official visit to Ukraine.
At the beginning of the meeting, the President thanked Latvia for its active support for the European integration of Ukraine and clear pro-Ukrainian position in the protection of independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
The Head of State also expressed gratitude to Latvia for supporting Ukraine at the UN General Assembly and voting for the provision of the status of non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.
In his turn, the President of Latvia thanked the President for an opportunity to visit Ukraine and discuss both bilateral relations and interaction in the process of European integration. “Latvia will never recognize the annexation of Crimea and will always support Ukraine,” he said. Raimonds Vējonis called the violation of the international law by Russia inadmissible.
The President of Latvia emphasized that the European Union and his country firmly support Ukraine’s independence and territorial integrity, and underline the necessity of strict compliance with the international law and sanctions against perpetrators.
The visit of Latvian President Raimonds Vējonis started with the official welcoming ceremony in front of the Presidential Administration.
