Problem in the East of Ukraine must be solved for it is a threat to the security of the entire world, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko noted in the interview to CNN.
The President called on the U.S. Congress to recognize militants and organizations acting in the East of Ukraine, as well as those who support them terrorists. "It will be an important gesture of solidarity that we are expecting from the entire world," Petro Poroshenko stressed.
The President emphasizes that one cannot call those who kill innocent people separatists. They are terrorists. According to him, "each person in the world must feel how dangerous it is for everyone".
Speaking of the ways of settlement of the situation in the Donbas, the Head of State underlines that all measures for de-escalation must be used the understanding of which he demonstrated having offered a peace plan and then proclaiming the unilateral ceasefire regime for 10 days.
The President considers that in case when sanctions do not work, there are grounds to address the U.S. Congress with a request for the special status of Major Non-NATO Ally of the United States that has already been granted to Israel, Australia and Philippines. "It is the threat for the whole world. It is not a conflict inside Ukraine. Ukrainian nation is united as never before and the world should find the right answer to the actions of terrorists," he emphasized.
The President underlined that the reaction of the world to the events with the aircraft should be uniform. Every person, every country, including Russia, should make a decision whether to be with the terrorists or to be with the civilized world.
The Head of State firmly responded to the statement of the Russian side that the Ukrainian military aircraft had been flying a few kilometers away from the Malaysian aircraft just shortly around the time that it had been downed. "It is an irresponsible and untruthful statement," Petro Poroshenko said and informed that he had offered Russian experts to participate in the work of the investigation commission at the crash site.
On the contrary, the Head of State emphasizes, there are lots of evidence that Russia supports terrorists in the East of Ukraine.
Petro Poroshenko informs that "huge efforts" were made by the Ukrainian government to ensure transparent investigation into the plane crash. He informed on his decision to declare a demilitarization zone around the crash site until the completion of the investigation.
