President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko had telephone conversation with U.S. President Barack Obama.
Petro Poroshenko thanked the US and President Barack Obama personally for his support of Ukriane and the Peace Plan. The parties expressed their strong resolve that the Minsk Agreement, in particular the September 5 Protocol and September 19 Memorandum should be closely adheared to and executed by all sides. In this context, the presidents of Ukraine and the U.S. paid particular attention to the question of the control of the Ukrainian-Russian borders and emphasized that elections in Donetsk and Luhansk oblast need to be legitimate.
President Obama underscored the importance of the passage of anti-cooruption legislation and the Law on the Procuracy by the Verkhovna Rada and emphasized the importance of further reforms.
President Poroshenko thanked the U.S. for their transatlantic solidarity in the effort to achieve peace. The parties also discussed the question of energy and agreed the importance of resolving the gas issue.
Barack Obama also informed about his video conference with the leaders of the UK, Germany, France and Italy, where, pathways to peace in Donbass were among the issues discussed.
