President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has held a phone conversation with Federal Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel.
The Ukrainian President has expressed gratitude to Angela Merkel for the consolidating role of Germany and its government in the EU's support to Ukraine stipulated in the Conclusions by the EU Council of January 29, 2015.
The parties have discussed the situation in the Donbas and the ways of achieving the peaceful resolution. Petro Poroshenko and Angela Merkel have spoken in favor of holding the meeting of the Trilateral Contact Group in the nearest time to declare immediate bilateral ceasefire, withdraw heavy armament and troops and carry out the pullback to the delimitation line. The Ukrainian President has also emphasized the importance of immediate liberation of all hostages, including Nadiya Savchenko. Should the progress be achieved, the parties will stand for the continuation of dialogue in the Normandy format.
Petro Poroshenko and Angela Merkel have scheduled a meeting for the Munich Security Conference of February 6-8 in order to closely coordinate their future actions.
