President Petro Poroshenko has held a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Spain José Manuel García-Margallo y Marfil.
The Head of State has thanked the Minister for the solidarity of Spain in support of sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. "I think that Spain is well-aware of the situation in Ukraine and the importance of countering terrorism," the President noted.
The President has informed the Spanish Minister about the terrorists' shelling of the peaceful city of Kramatorsk located 45 km away from the area of hostilities. The shelling ended up with numerous casualties, murdered and injured, 5 children among them.
The Foreign Minister of Spain has expressed condolences over the terrorist attack in Kramatorsk, which led to human victims. According to the Minister, Spain is well-aware of the threats of terrorism.
The Head of State has emphasized close coordination of Ukraine's efforts with Germany and France on the preparation and holding of tomorrow's meeting in the Normandy format in Minsk. "Tomorrow's meeting in Minsk is one of the last chances to declare unconditional ceasefire and withdraw heavy armament," the President said. According to him, it is impossible to achieve progress in the settlement of the situation under constant missile fire similar to the attack on Kramatorsk.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs informs that Spain stands for the unity of the EU in its solidarity with Ukraine.
"You can count on us. We will never recognize any actions contrary to your Constitution," the Minister has assured. He has also noted that Spain was ready to cooperate with Ukraine in the sphere of economic reforms: "We know that the political price of reforms is extremely costly, but the reforms are essential. You are know heading the most reformist ever government in Ukraine and we fully support you," the Foreign Minister of Spain said.
Petro Poroshenko has called it important that the Foreign Minister of Spain was accompanied in Ukraine by a powerful group of Spanish businessmen. "This is what we are expecting in such a difficult time. Ukraine is interested and promising for business," the Head of State noted.
The Head of State has assured that Ukraine made every effort to implement reforms, overcome corruption and create a favorable investment climate despite a difficult situation.
