23 April 2015 22:59

In the course of the meeting in Paris, Presidents of Ukraine and France have agreed on clear and close coordination of actions concerning full implementation of the Minsk agreements.

President Petro Poroshenko emphasizes that it goes about the ceasefire which is currently not observed; and, according to the OSCE, it is not the fault of the Ukrainian party. Also, the President has stated the necessity of the withdrawal of heavy armament, liberation of all hostages, unimpeded access of the OSCE to all locations where the weaponry may be stored, establishment of observation points and 24/7 duty at these points.

The parties have agreed to make every effort to increase the efficiency and capability of the OSCE mission.

The President has stated the need for additional security presence in Donbas. "It is imperative to find a compromise regarding the format," he said. The Head of State has emphasized that both peacekeepers and police mission would serve as a guarantee of peace and stability. "We have to find an option that will be most effective," Poroshenko said and added: "Peacekeepers are not an alternative to the OSCE. Each of them has its own function. The task of peacekeepers is to prevent the recession from the peace agreements".

The President of Ukraine has thanked the President of France, as one of the leaders of the European Union, for his personal commitment to finding peace in Ukraine and achieving stability in Europe.

According to Petro Poroshenko, the format of achieving peace in Ukraine is called “Normandy” not by coincidence, for it has been initiated on the Day of Allied Troops’ Landing in Normandy. “France has demonstrated its leadership role in the peace process,” the Head of State noted.

The President has emphasized that the achievement of peace in Donbas was not only the issue of Ukraine, but also the issue of European and global security. Petro Poroshenko has thanked Francois Hollande for the responsible position and efforts “we made to conclude the Minsk agreements that are the only way to the establishment of peace and stability”.

Speaking of the necessity of political settlement, the President has once again emphasized the importance of holding fair and transparent elections in Donbas for choosing legal representatives of the people of Donbas who will hold negotiations on the restoration of peaceful life.

The President has highlighted the importance of solving the issue of hostages’ liberation, particularly the release of Ukrainian pilot Nadiya Savchenko.

The parties have also discussed cooperation in military-technical sphere. “We ascertain the absence of any problems,” Petro Poroshenko said. The President has thanked for extraordinary warmth and hospitality Ukrainian delegation felt in France.
