President Petro Poroshenko has held a meeting with the U.S. Senators’ delegation headed by John McCain.
The President has informed on the recent situation in Donbas noting the escalation and non-compliance of the Minsk agreements by Russia and Russian-backed militants.
The Head of State has emphasized that Ukraine had managed to build a powerful army with a strong spirit. “But we are fighting with weapons of the XX century against weapons of the XXI century, because Russia supplies state-of-the-art armament to Donbas using Ukraine as a testing area for its new samples of weaponry,” Petro Poroshenko said.
The President has thanked for a strong support of the United States in a difficult time for Ukraine. Particularly, he noted the importance of joint Ukrainian-American military training.
The Head of State has also praised the adoption of the bill on the American defense budget by the U.S. Senate. According to him, it is a symbolic demonstration of not only financial support for Ukraine. “It is not only financial and economic assistance, but also support for our security,” Petro Poroshenko emphasized.
Senator McCain has stated that he visited Ukraine to reaffirm support for its independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The Senator has informed that he had already met with a group of volunteers. “Ukrainians are ready and will struggle for freedom. It is great to see such an organization of people. I was really impressed,” John McCain said.
The meeting has also been attended by Senators John Barrasso and Tom Cotton, NSDC Secretary Oleksandr Turchynov, Minister of Foreign Affairs Pavlo Klimkin and Deputy Heads of the Presidential Administration Valeriy Chaly and Andriy Taranov.
