On the Independence Day, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and his wife paid tribute to the great Ukrainian poet, writer and painter Taras Shevchenko.

During the performance of composition "The Wide Dnipro Roars and Moans", the President and his wife laid flowers to the monument of Kobzar. "To the Great Kobzar from the Ukrainian nation," the attendees honored the memory of T. Shevchenko.

Together with the President, the ceremony was attended by volunteers, cultural and public figures, Chairman of Verkhovna Rada Volodymyr Groysman, Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk, NSDC Secretary Oleksandr Turchynov, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, Kyiv RSA Head Volodymyr Shandra.

Officials of the Government and the Presidential Administration, as well as people's deputies also paid tribute to the Great Kobzar.
