On the Independence Day, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and his wife paid tribute to the great Ukrainian poet, writer and painter Taras Shevchenko.

Together with the President, the ceremony was attended by volunteers, cultural and public figures, Chairman of Verkhovna Rada Volodymyr Groysman, Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk, NSDC Secretary Oleksandr Turchynov, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, Kyiv RSA Head Volodymyr Shandra.
Officials of the Government and the Presidential Administration, as well as people's deputies also paid tribute to the Great Kobzar.
