In the joint statement, Presidents of Ukraine and Kazakhstan emphasized the need to enhance interaction between the two countries

Following the bilateral meeting between President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev and Ukrainian-Kazakh negotiations in expanded format, the Heads of State signed the Joint statement.

The Heads of State confirmed willingness of the two countries to strengthen Ukrainian-Kazakh relations and expand cooperation in all fields of mutual interest. The parties confirmed their positions in respect of the most topical issues of the international agenda.

The Heads of State pointed out a common position on the need to fully implement the Minsk agreements of 2014-2015 and welcomed the results of the meeting in the Normandy format on October 2 in Paris.

The two leaders stressed the need to enhance cooperation on ensuring peace and security in the framework of global and regional organizations, as well as further consolidate international efforts aimed to combat international terrorism, organized crime and drug trafficking.

It was confirmed that the top-priorities for the development of mutually beneficial cooperation were such sectors as: fuel and energy, agriculture, energy, transport, mining, agricultural engineering, creation of infrastructure facilities, aviation, space etc. The document also sets forth the agreements on the ways to develop bilateral cooperation in trade-economic sphere, particularly through the creation of joint enterprises in Kazakhstan for the intensification of Ukraine’s participation in the projects of industrialization and innovation development of Kazakhstan, compliance of Kazakhstan with the WTO rules and regulations in the mode of bilateral trade.

Following the summit talks, the Ukraine-Kazakhstan Action Plan for 2015-2017 ("Roadmap - 5") was signed. It identifies the key vectors of bilateral cooperation for the near future.

Earlier, in the course of the negotiations in expanded format, the Ukrainian President thanked his colleague for the intention to develop political dialogue between the countries “on the basis of trust and traditional mutual respect between our heads of state and our people”.

“Kazakhstan’s respect to the principles of international law, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine is extremely important for me, as President, and for the people of Ukraine. We highly appraise the position of Kazakhstan,” Petro Poroshenko said.

In his turn, Nursultan Nazarbayev expressed belief that the visit of the Ukrainian President to Astana would promote trade turnover and further development of bilateral relations. “We’ve been always building our relations on the principles of constructive cooperation,” the President of Kazakhstan noted.

Nursultan Nazarbayev is confident that the Ukrainian-Kazakh business forum currently held in Astana will also facilitate the development of relations. “It will significantly contribute to cooperation between our business circles,” he said.
