The launch of LNG terminal in Swinoujscie, Poland, "will significantly increase the energy independence of Poland, so it can significantly enhance the energy independence of Ukraine", stressed Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk on Tuesday, December 15, at a meeting with President of the Republic of Poland AndrzejDuda, who is in Ukraine on an official visit.
The Prime Minister congratulated Poland on the launch of LNG terminal in Swinoujscie a few days ago, noting that it already received its first cargo from Qatar.
Arseniy Yatsenyuk reminded about a joint project on the construction of a gas pipeline interconnector between Ukraine and Poland. He noted that after launch of the interconnector, Ukraine would be able to buy from Poland up to 8 billion cubic meters of gas: "Hence, together we will have high profitability and high energy independence".
Another project in energy sector, which operates between the two countries is the supply of electric energy to Poland from Khmelnitsky Nuclear Power Plant: "Our state companies could continue negotiations on the construction of this supply chain".
Arseniy Yatsenyuk emphasized that the Ukrainian Government welcomes and commends the decision on granting a swap to the National Bank of Ukraine worth EUR 1 billion.
Moreover, the Prime Minister of Ukraine reminded that the Government of Poland had adopted a decision to provide assistance to Ukraine worth EUR 100 million: "These funds will be used by both Polish and Ukrainian companies for the development of Ukrainian-Polish border, construction of roads and for Ukraine to become a truly European state. Because a European state begins from our common border".
Arseniy Yatsenyuk expressed gratitude to Poland as a close ally of Ukraine in its European integration aspirations: "We are not just neighbors, we are very close friends".
