President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and President of Poland Andrzej Duda discussed energy cooperation. The Presidents condemned the Nord Stream II as the political project, which creates an opportunity of political pressure on other countries.
The President expressed gratitude to Poland for the creation of conditions for the completion of drafting technical and economic feasibility of building the interconnector, understanding the necessity of further use of gas transport capacities of Ukraine for the transportation of gas to Europe and the inadmissibility of the Nord Stream II project. “It is a firm position of Ukraine and Poland. We coordinate actions with Slovakia, the Baltic and Scandinavian states, Italy and other EU countries. We assure that this project has no economic sense. It is clearly a political project. We consider giving an opportunity for political pressure on the EU countries and Ukraine inadmissible,” the President said.
The Presidents agreed to make further joint efforts for the European Commission to adopt a decision preventing the increase of dependence of Ukraine and Poland on Russian gas suppliers.
“It is not a business project. It is a political project that interferes in the energy security of our countries. That’s why we cannot accept it,” President of Poland Andrzej Duda noted.
The President of Poland called this project a “harmful investment for the EU”. He assured that his country would take action at all possible forums in order to hinder the implementation of this project.
